SILABUS MATA KULIAH (SMK)

Mata Kuliah/SKS : Semantics (2 SKS)

Deskripsi Mata Kuliah : Mata kuliah ini merupakan salah satu mata kuliah pokok dari mata kuliah – mata kuliah yang tergolong kepada Linguistics. Semantics merupakan lanjutan dari mata kuliah Introduction to Linguistics. Dalam mata kuliah ini mahasiswa untuk mendalami teori-teori dan pengetahuan tentang linguistics dalam konteks Semantics. Mahasiswa
mempelajari perbedaaan antara kalimat dan ujaran, pemahaman tentang makna kata, logika, dan makna inter personal. Selain itu dalam mata kuliah ini juga dipelajari tentang Lexical relation dan Sentence relation dalam perspektif makna. Kemudian mahasiswa juga mempelajari makna bahasa sesuai dengan konteksnya atau context reference.
Tujuan Mata Kuliah : Setelah mengikuti mata kuliah ini mahasiswa bisa membedakan hubungan antara language dan makna (semantics), mahasiswa juga mampu menyebutkan pengertian Semantics serta scope kajian Semantics. Setelah mempelajari mata kuliah ini mahasiswa juga mampu membuat contoh – contoh perbedaan dari utterance, sentence, dan reference. Kemudian mahasiswa juga mampu menyebutkan dan memberikan contoh – contoh hubungan makna lexican seperti hyponymy, synonymy, antonymy, gradable pairs dll. Selanjutnya mahasiswa juga mampu menyebutkan dan memberikan contoh hubungan makna dalam kalimat seperti anomaly, ambiguity, dan contradictory. Terakhir mahasiswa mampu menyebutkan dan memberikan contoh hubungan context dan reference serta aspek – aspek dalam makna interpersonal.

SENSE AND REFERENCE

—Reference deals with the relation between the linguistics elements, word, sentence, etc., and non linguistics world of experience.
—Reference of a word is the object designated by the word.
—Sense relates to the complex system of relationships that hold between the linguistics elements themselves.
—Sense of a word is the additional meaning attached to the word.

REFERRING EXPRESSION

—A referring expression is any expression used in an utterance to refer to something or someone,i.e used with paticular referent in mind.
—The name Fred in an utterance such as
“Fred hit me”
the speaker has a particular person in the mind.

So Fred in the utterance is a referring expression
